Its somewhat surprising that Jimmie Johnson has performed so well in practice and qualifying this week at Dover. He is performing better than expected and usually when he performs this well in practice, he wins the race.
His crew chief Chad Knaus is very good at keeping up with the track especially when starting with a very fast car to begin with.
Johnson was fifth in first practice and qualified fourth. He was fastest in second practice and fastest in final practice. His average speeds were high end and his top speed in the final two practices shows how well his car is turning, which is key to winning at Dover.

Toyota has been dominant this year in the Nationwide Series. The #20 Gibbs car has been dominant. Joey Logano is one of the brightest new stars in NASCAR.
Logano lived up to his hype last week, finishing 6th at Dover. We didnt expect him to win in his first race. Last week, we went with Hamlin, who also races for Gibbs. He pulled out the victory.
Logano was ninth in first practice as he adjusted to Nashville and second in second practice. He then went on to qualify on the pole, at over a tenth of a second faster than Keselowski.
Logano is very focused and could easily pull out the victory today after just one Nationwide race under his belt. We believe he will only get stronger as the race goes on as he assimilates himself to the track. | Jun-07-2008 04:00 PM | -1 |

Michigan is the back yard for Chevrolet, Ford and Dodge. Jack Roush puts a great deal of effort into Michigan and it has shown in practice. Four of his drivers were in the top ten in final practice and three in the top five.
We expect a Roush car to win this weekend. Greg Biffle has been the best of the five Roush drivers throughout practice. His top speed and lap average in final practice was very strong and he was fastest in second practice.
The Biff has won twice at Michigan in the Sprint Cup Series. This type of track fits his style. He had the best car in Darlington earlier this year. He has been on the brink of winning, but has hit a terrible string of luck.
Throwing luck out the window, Greg Biffle is the right selection for this race. He is very hungry for a win. Biffle has been stronger than his teammate Carl Edwards throughout practice, which is very impressive.
Another factor, the Toyotas have been weak in practice at Michigan this weekend. Chevrolet, Ford and Dodge put so much effort into Michigan.
Greg Biffles main competition should be Jimmie Johnson. Johnson is just too inconsistent this year on this type of track to rely on him. Watch The Biff get his first victory of the year on one of his favorite tracks. | Jun-15-2008 03:50 AM | -1 |

Kyle Busch is coming into this Michigan race after running two races yesterday and crashing hard in the Nationwide race last night. He wrecked Ron Hornaday in the Truck race and spun while trying to track down Joey Logano in the Nationwide race. He will push hard at Michigan, probably beyond the cars limits, which could lead to problems.
Earnhardt, Jr. has been extremely consistent this year and was solid on the long-run in practice. Also, Junior drives a Chevrolet, which have been strong this weekend while the Toyotas havent been smoking fast like usual.
It wouldnt surprise us if Kyle Busch wrecked again like he did at Pocono. He has had a bad run of it the last week. Earnhardt, Jr. should be the favorite in this matchup, but the oddsmakers are looking at the 4-win Kyle Busch and not the Kyle Busch of the last week.

Brad Keselowski is one of the hottest drivers in the Nationwide series right now. He has all sorts of momentum.
He is serious about winning and won his first Nationwide race two races ago at Nashville. He could have easily won three races ago at Dover if not for a pit road accident.
Keselowski was fastest in first practice, which holds the most weight because it is closest to what race conditions will be like tonight. He followed up practice by qualifying on the pole.
Milwaukee is characterized by long runs. Keselowski commented that he is set up for the long run, yet hes fast on the top end as well. This is similar to Johnny Benson last night when we picked him as the winner of the Truck race.
Keselowski runs for JR Motorsports/Hendrick. The JR Motorsports cars seem to have the best set up at Milwaukee this weekend. Keselowskis teammate, Landon Cassill, is fast as well.
Keselowskis crew chief has kept up well with the car and track during the race. Keselowski has raced better than hes qualified most of the time.

Juan Pablo Montoya is the defending champion of this road course race. There is a lot of hype around him on road courses, but he backs it up. Hes one of the best road racers in the world with experience in Formula 1 and IndyCar.
Montoya won this race last year on fuel mileage, but he had one of the best pass differentials. He is one of the best drivers at passing on road courses, if not the best. Hell be starting 21st, which shouldnt affect his chances much. His qualifying setup at Sonoma isnt the greatest, but his race setup is looking very strong.
In practice 2 and final practice, drivers were running race setups, Montoya was 8th and 6th fastest respectively. He had the best average speed in final practice and ran 23 laps (high-end outlier). Montoya should be able to play the fuel mileage card if needed and not drop off as much as the other drivers over a 40 lap run.

Jeff Gordon has finished 2nd, 2nd and 3rd in his last three races at New Hampshire. He has won three times there in the past and has the second best average finish at New Hampshire.
New Hampshire is a very good track for Jeff Gordon to rebound especially heading into Daytona next week where he is very strong as well.
Gordon was solid in all three practices and his car looked very smooth and stout. Hes a solid driver and bad luck usually doesnt find him because he stays out of trouble and races smart. We expect him to keep the fenders clean.
He is starting 19th due to qualifying being rain delayed for over an hour and several drivers being able to qualify in much cooler conditions than Gordon qualified in with his early qualifying draw.
Usually when Gordon is as solid as he was in practice, it leads to race wins. He isnt one to push it to the limit in practice just to put a big number up, instead he works on the cars drive ability/comfort, so he can push it during the race especially late. | Jun-29-2008 02:19 AM | -1 |
